SAIC Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute-Frederick has a position for a  Sr. Scientist position  to initiate novel research projects; work in close collaboration with a strong team of geneticists and immunologists to independently study the association between immunogenetic polymorphisms and human diseases.  You will develop and refine high throughput molecular typing technologies for the characterization of genetic polymorphisms of class I and class II HLA, other MHC genes, as well as KIR genes in large populations and disease cohorts. Will analyze data and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals; will be expected to train junior staff/students, give seminar/conference talks and write reports and manuscripts for publications.

 

Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university appropriate to biomedical research required. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. In addition to education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of competent, innovative research in a field of specialty. must have a highly sophisticated knowledge and sound research experience on HLA and KIR gene related studies including expertise in sequence-based typing technologies for HLA and KI.  Must have expertise in sequence-based typing technologies for HLA and KIR polymorphisms; knowledge and experience in disease association studies, population genetics and MHC evolution; required to have extensive bioinformatics and computing knowledge and skills; the ability to use sophisticated software (ASSIGN, SAS) to conduct DNA sequence analysis and statistical analyses including survival analyses, genetic parameters, and genetic risk for diseases.  A sound knowledge on epidemiology, medical statistics and human diseases required. Must have advanced training, research experience and skills in immunogenetic studies on human populations and large disease cohorts including the detection and characterization of unknown HLA and KIR genes and alleles; influence of HLA, KIR and MIC polymorphisms on autoimmune, infectious and malignancy diseases; population phylogeny based on MHC polymorphisms; and molecular evolution of class I and class II HLA genes.  Must have demonstrated expertise in immunogenetics and an established record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
